Hi,
Today AMD has officially reveal their new graphics cards, based on a new RDNA2 architecture for the Radeon RX 6000 Series. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHpgu-cTjyM
Two things caught my attention.
For a company who is involved in the process of developing open-source Linux drivers, a few words in the direction of the Linux developers and users of free softwares would have been welcome, but it does not yet seem that is a part in the marketing process to talk about it and all the show was about DX12 and proprietary software.
'AMD Smart Access Memory', 'AMD Rage mode' and some other features which took a big place in AMD marketing are windows only. Here is the link for example about AMD Smart Access Memory https://www.amd.com/en/technologies/smart-access-memory
So for now on Linux, there is no kernel which is able to provide a full compatibility with this new Radeon RX 6000 Series, some softwares like MESA need to be built from a development branch and probably all the newer features will never be available on GnuLinux platform.
I remain very pessimistic in terms of performance on GnuLinux platform compared to the gains announced in the presentation on windows. I still can't wait to see the first benchmarks on Phoronix.
Thx
