Hello,

I have this HP ProBook 6460b A0001D02 which works fine generally but ever since kernel moved on from 4 series to 5 it will freeze completely within few minutes after I login to any WM or a DE. The only way to get out of this freeze is to force poweroff by pressing power off button for long time or at times by removing battery.

The only kernels that work fine on any distro on this laptop are 4.14 or 4.19 series.

Any clue what is with this laptop`s hardware that it cant stay on any of 5 series kernels?
The only thing I can advise is pick up from the archive of Arch the 4.19 kernel, choose the last edition, or build one from AUR
aur/linux-lts419 4.19.176-1 (12) (0.40)
The LTS 4.19 Linux kernel and modules
aur/linux-lts419-headers 4.19.176-1 (12) (0.40)
Headers and scripts for building modules for the LTS 4.19 Linux kernel
aur/linux-lts419-docs 4.19.176-1 (12) (0.40)
Documentation for the LTS 4.19 Linux kernel
There are many lts kernels to choose but you should try the ones that are still actively updated

There must be some piece of hw in there, maybe gfx related that is no longer supported. Arch generally doesn't disable things from kernel.org, only modify it to make it work with arch.
Thats what I am using from a third party repository because any arch based distro with latest kernel wont let me install from a live session and even when installed.
