Hey guys, I am a complete noob, with little to no exposure to programming. Started my Linux journey 10 months ago, my first distro was an Ubuntu based one: POP!OS that made me fall in love, gnome was nice a new kind of DE but after using it for two months or so I just didn't like gnome that much, so installed KDE. Which was actually cool, and it was something I could use, unlike gnome being just cool and taking up a lot of my display. Then I was told by a few Redditors to try WM, and so I installed awesome WM, but that didn't work as POP!OS didn't allow it. Then someone on the POP!OS Reddit page said they are able to run i3, so I gave it a run and I liked the WM idea and I started to use i3 for my studies and KDE for normal use.
But the fact that I am not free to choose the WM of my choice, irked me. So went out for a distro hunt, and I decided to try a rolling release, but I knew I wasn't ready for arch, so like most people I choose MANJARO; got the minimal KDE ISO and installed it and then installed openbox and awesome wm and since then never looked back. Then I came across a meme/ Reddit post on systemd being the devil or something like that. As usual, I went to invidious and searched systemd and the first video on the list was the talk by Mr.Benno Rice (I believe), after watching the video I was intrigued by the idea of running a systemd free system, so I went again on the hunt for an init system which I feel like could give systemd a good run for their money: but Mr.Benno had already convinced me the s6 will be the one. So after watching a few videos and I decided to install artix. It was then I came across suite66, not realizing that s6 and suite66 being different I got the KDE ISO installed it on my daily driver. The one thing which I really loved was the tree concept.
After running for a day or two, I decide to stick with 66, even tough most of the people on the artix telegram chat said otherwise. But latter I realized that artix was not completely systemd free like I thought it was, hence I decided to switch to OBARUN. Used the JWM ISO, but installed KDE again. But I wanted to try setting up a proper BTRFS for snapper. So booted into the arch-iso, tried to follow the OBARUN wiki, but was having trouble doing it. But the people at the official XMPP chat of OBARUN, helped me a lot, especially: OBARUN, YANN-KAELING, SHIRONEKO, YIANIRIS, MOBINMOB
For now, I have an encrypted my drives, and currently using Qtile as my main WM, with connmand as new fav; I still have to setup my lightdm, pipewire, theme my qtile and other application.

So THANK YOU!!!! All for such a wonderful support.

Hello Xanaus

It's up to me to thank you for the time you took for the research. All these steps that you have accomplished I could summarize them in a few words, "discovery or ignorance".

Thx and welcome
Hi Xanaus!

You have had quite an adventure. I admire you for defining your requirements, exploring the various Linux distributions and DEs, and learning the install nuances to achieve your goal. Well done! I, also, had a similar adventure that lead me to Obarun.

:) Good to have you here with us.
Only 10 months from first migration to the best OS on the planet (Obarun) ?

I'm super jealous. Like most of us, I had to trawl through more than a decade of *buntu, Manjaro and all the rest!

Well the tortoise always wins in the end.

may you be right because the development of obarun is far behind some distro (not to name any)
