LarryDC I have been a distro junkie: More than 100 installed on hardware: I don't do virtual. I have resolved to reduce my regularly maintained 30 distros down to 10 with 3 top, ready for everyday use. With today's success, Obarun is one of those 3. Caveats: JWM is my preference. No systemd. I prefer text logins. If I can't get my old nvidia GeForce 210 to run on nvidia driver 340-108 [for 75Hz], then up-to-date kernels. I always run a conky 1 line across the bottom of the screen, vfu in an st terminal emulator, keepassxc, surf & dillo browsers, joplin, grun, scite, and inxi. Eric has kindly helped me through many of issues over the years. But this time I have only needed: log in as root: pacman -Syu, 66-update -d, if no errors: 66-update. That's it and I've been up and running 3 - 4 months now on its partition with no re-installs. Congratulations to Eric and, of course, to whoever "fungal_net" might be :). I don't know who antiX's anti_capitalista is either. But also to to Jean-Michel and the other forum members who ask questions and help solve things. Keep up the great work. Maybe I'll be able to help a newcomer or 2 myself sometime.
[deleted] Hello I have been a distro junkie: More than 100 installed on hardware: I don't do virtual. Wouaou! I installed some distro but I am far from your. The credit goes to Eric who does a great job with 66 and all others tools.
LarryDC Just an update: Today I booted Obarun after many months of neglect and ran the update routine I use and here I am in jwm writing this update.! Sorry to hear of Jean Michel's retirement... not for him - I'm retired and love it - but for those of us who have benefited from his help. Thanks again to Eric for persevering. Obarun Is now moved up into my "maintained for daily use" top of my grub's ¨menu.lst" Be well!
LarryDC Another update: I had dropped Obarun to 2nd tier since I don´t understand s6/66. But today I tried my usual # pacman -Syu I ran into a btrfs-progs warning on the 277 updates. N.B. I had NOT done my due diligence of checking the forum on the switch to cloud.server.obarun.org running # pacman-key --refresh-keys got the update to work along with a one-time SigLevel = TrustAll in /etc/pacman.conf Then I switched the repository copying the appropriate lines from /etc/pacman.conf.pacnew. Then another # pacman -Syu for a few more apps. Of course ALWAYS followed by # 66-update -d SO: Despite banned_9-26-2021/Fungal-net/sysdfree-editor(on his own site) 's objections, I find Eric, and whoever else is maintaining Obarun, is doing a tremendous job: Cutting edge Arch ... AND Systemd free!! And of course of particular importance to me: a Great JWM!!! Of course, I just made a donation as well.
