--edit: jbd2 was accessing my drive every 5 seconds. Part of the ext4 jounalling system, aparently. First time I ever forgot to set 'noatime' in my fstab, so this was new to me.

Heya. Doesn't matter which drive i use. Havent even slapped X on any yet.
Anyone have any idea what to look for?

I've tried 5 drives to make sure it's not a HW issue.
None of my previous installs have issues.

Latest fresh install before this issue: Nov 13, 2021.
I've never had any luck with the whole s6/66 thing. Any directions i follow only lead to error messages. If an -Syu leads to bootless, I simply swap drives and re-install. This be the first time a fresh install had an issue.

Backups be complete, so shout at me if u have an idea.

Have you tried iotop to see what's accessing the disk?
Thanks. The line 'jbd2/sda1-8' pops to the top roughly every 5 seconds.

Went ahead n installed X n a browser. Looking now to find out what jbd2 is.
jbd2 seems to part of the ext4 journaling system. Setting the 'noatime' flag in fstab seems to have solved it.

Why it's misbehaving by default is beyond me, but others have noticed this prob as well.
Anyone using ext filesystem might want to check.
I'll mark as solved. Thanks again.
