Simple-scan installation attempt and missing (?) dependency.

Hello,
When trying to install simple-scan, I got the followings: (translated from French, could not be the exact wording in English)
"impossible to solve libtiff.so=5.64, a sane dependency"
when "pacman -Ss libtiff", it reports: libtiff 4.6.0rc1-1 (installed) and libtiff4 3.9.7-5 (installed)
Any idea, pls where to get or which package includes libtiff.so=5.64, as requested by sane, simple-scan and many others ?

Please synchronize and try again. The issues coming from an out of date sane package.
This will not happen anymore soonly :)...

Hi,
It's not simply a reply but an upcoming issue I have.
Have re-installed Obarun-XFCE recently, a couple of days ago.
All the stuff (cups and so on) needed to print using a multifunction printer (EPSON ET-3950 Series) connected through wifi works fine.
It is not the case when trying to scan with it.
I've installed: simple-scan sane-airscan, sane libinsane (not sure is necessary, colord-sane.
According to Arch wiki, It does not seem a service to enable is necessary, I do not know.
But simple-scan stays silent, unable to detect the scanner, while a preliminary ping shows it is actually connected.
And by another distribution in multi-boot, it works fine (Devuan showing a saned service is enabled and working)
What should I have missed, here ?

arrosoir.bleu Hi, all youve installed looks correct, I do not know how devuan does it but you can try starting the saned daemon, either dedicating a root terminal to it with
# /usr/bin/saned -e -l
or adding the following service file to /etc/66/service and adding it to one of your root trees

Description = "sane daemon"
User = ( root )

[Start]
Execute = ( /usr/bin/execl-cmdline -s { /usr/bin/saned ${Args} } )

[Environment]
Args=!-e -l

Finally I continued working on that issue (with help by AI Claude) and I've implemented the following stuff (very close to yours, I guess).
avahi daemon is missing and not launched by a service as no service exists,
creation of one, such as:
nano [file = /etc/66/service/avahi-daemon]
[Main]

Version = 0.8.0
Description = "avahi mDNS/DNS-SD daemon"
User = ( root )
Depends = ( dbus )
[Start]
Execute = ( /usr/bin/execl-cmdline -s { /usr/bin/avahi-daemon ${Args} } )
[Environment]
Args=!--no-rlimits

66 parse avahi-daemon # check by 66
66 enable avahi-daemon # to tree global, to be started the next boot time
66 start avahi-daemon # to be started right now
66 status avahi-daemon # status of it
