Hello Eric,
after successfully update of 66 to 0.8.0.0, booting process, after restart, just stall.

[Starts stage1 process...]
boot: info: Create live scandir at: /run/66
scandir: info: Create scandir /run/66/scandir/0 ...
boot: info: Initiate erlier service of tree: boot
tree: info: Initialized successfully: boot@system:tty-earlier@tty12
boot: info: Starts boot logger at: /run/66/log/0
system-sysctl: info: apply sysctl configuration file

As nuisance, after downgrade of 66 to 0.7.2.1, apps like: birdtray and meteo-qt won't start, complaining for:

error while loading shared libraries: libsystemd.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Any help? Thanks.

P.S. Same happens after successfully new install of Obarun at spare partition, using obarun-JWM-2024.11.18-x86_64.iso.

Welcome to the club, I have two partitions failing to boot when I update to 0.8.0.0 and one that succeeds. The only diffrence I can tell is the early udev hook activates in the one that succeeds and doesn't in the ones that fail.

Edit: I just figured out the issue! How many boot flags do you have?
it boots with GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="loglevel=3 quiet" GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""

    It doesnt boot with for ex: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="loglevel=3 quiet" GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="nvidia-drm.modeset=1 ibt=off psi=1 i915.modeset=1"

@dvam try to set TMPFILE=!no to the boot@system service configuration and reconfigure your service

    # 66 configure -r 'TMPFILE=!no' boot@system
    # 66 reconfigure boot@system

Concerning your downgrade problem, i can't help you on that except if the libsystemd stuff come from a package on official Obarun repo.

    @What-now
Thanks for the tip, but my system boots directly, using motherboard's UEFI bootloader, not GRUB.

    @eric
I tried what you suggested, but that didnt solve the problem

      Wat-now
No extra boot flags ... just simple, usual boot entries.

Can please you chroot your system and give us the output of:

      # 66 tree resolve Master
      # 66 tree status -g
      % 66 tree resolve Master
      % 66 tree status -g

Eric, this is from new install, which has obviously the same behavior(problem) as main system ... if of interest, I'll update main system to 0.8.0.0 and do the same.

I dont expect this to work, but could you have 66 remount your run directory by adding to66 boot of /bin/init to 66 boot -m ? Maybe worth a shot.

My machine also failed to boot after the update. I could not determine exactly what was causing the issue, only that after upgrading and running the migration process the boot tree would not be brought up completely.

Debugging the live system was not possible because things like /dev/pts were not being mounted and sudo refused to work because of this (I have root logins disabled). I started by removing my custom services (which the new version was not happy with) but in the end I had to rebuild all the trees again from zero because there was some sort of inconsistency I could not fully understand.

I posted a new thread in this section a few minutes ago with the outline of what was needed to recover my machine, for those who want to try one last thing before going for a reinstall.

        • dvam replied to this.

cdop ... one last thing before going for a reinstall.

The new clean install, using the latest ISO, is not an option at my machine, because that gives non bootable, completely unresponsive system, although is successfully installed.

          • cdop replied to this.

Take a look at the instructions we have on the other thread. On a fresh install that's not even booting correctly there's not a lot to lose by trying the "delete and rebuild every tree" approach.

            • dvam replied to this.

              cdop

Applying instructions from your "delete and rebuild every tree" approach workaround, to new (clean) install, didn't solve the problem.
System is still non-bootabole and unresponsive, as was allready. Thanks anyway!

              @dvam

my first answer was wrong. I read your post a little to quick.

dvam system-sysctl: info: apply sysctl configuration file

your boot seems to hang at system-sysctl which is responsible to launch the sysctl -p command. To confirm that you can try the following

              # 66 configure -r 'SYSCTL=!no' boot@system
              # 66 reconfigure boot@system

and try to reboot. it will skip the configuration of the kernel.

              • dvam replied to this.

                eric

Now hangs at: boot: info: Starts boot logger at: /run/66/log/0

                That's is unbelievable.
For now you can rollback your system as instructed here.

After a correct reboot, make an archive of your /etc/66, /var/lib/66, $HOME/.66 directories and send me it.

Did you come from the 0.7.2.1 release? if not, it can explain your trouble.

eric Did you come from the 0.7.2.1 release? if not, it can explain your trouble.

My main system comes from 0.7.2.1 release, but the same problem appears after clean install.

By the way, I have just sent you requested directories from my main system ( 0.8.0.0 ) that hangs while booting ... inside you will find 0.7.2.1 snapshots , when it boots normally.

After research and help from other users at Obarun channel, the trouble seems to come from machine booting with UEFI mode. This is also your cases?

                  • dvam replied to this.

Yes, my system boots directly via motherboards UEFI boot loader.

Can you confirm that you're able to boot in legacy mode?
